Alessi — Toru NE01/80 B | Nendo steel electric kettle

There is a silent geometry in Toru that holds your breath. The 18/10 stainless steel body captures light with that almost liquid quality that only carefully worked metal can deliver, while the handle, lid and spout in black thermoplastic resin draw a sharp contrast, calibrated to the millimeter. This is not a simple kettle: it is an object that inhabits the worktop as a sculpture inhabits a pedestal, without ever forgetting its everyday vocation. Toru was designed by Nendo, the studio founded by Oki Sato in Tokyo in 2002, one of the most celebrated design firms on the contemporary international scene. Nendo has built its creative philosophy around the idea of discreet surprise - that "!" that arises in the observer when a familiar object reveals an unexpected perspective. With Toru, this principle is expressed in the tension between the cylindrical solidity of the body and the gestural lightness of the spout, which descends with an almost organic naturalness, almost as if it were about to say something. We chose Toru for Stilmobili because it embodies with precision that borderline zone where design stops being decoration and becomes applied thought. It is the ideal kettle for those who do not give up aesthetic coherence even in the simplest gestures of the day - those who heat water for morning tea with the same care they use when choosing a work of art for their bookshelf.
