Alessi — Strelka MN12/5 | Stainless steel fruit fork

There is something almost aeronautical about the silhouette of the Strelka: the tines extend with controlled tension, while the handle slips between the fingers with the naturalness of an object that seems always to have existed. Made of polished stainless steel, this seventeen-centimeter fruit fork has a formal lightness rarely found in designed cutlery. The material is hard and cold to the touch, yet the shape softens it, making it almost organic. Strelka was created by Marc Newson, an Australian designer by training and a citizen of the world by vocation, one of the few designers of his generation able to move with equal authority among watches, airplanes, sneakers, and spoons. His relationship with Alessi produced one of the most recognizable cutlery collections of the 2000s: lines that seem to have emerged from a 1950s futurist dream, reinterpreted with contemporary irony and technical precision. The name itself - Strelka, the Soviet dog launched into space in 1960 - reveals Newson's imagery: adventure, speed, and a certain cosmic romanticism. We chose to include the Strelka in our selection because it represents exactly what we look for: objects that have something to say even when they are not being used. It is the ideal piece for those who compose a place setting with aesthetic awareness, for those who consider the table a space for composition and not merely function.
