A circle of vivid green that slips around the wrist like a small planet in orbit. Space-bimba is a polyurethane wristwatch with an essential shape and an unmistakably playful character: a disc 3.8 centimeters in diameter, barely one centimeter thick, light as a thought. The color — a bright, almost alien green — is not a detail but the object's beating heart, its first declaration of intent. It was designed by Miriam Mirri, a Roman designer who is among the most original and ironic voices on the Italian scene, equally at ease moving between auteur design and the world of childhood, between conceptual reflection and the pure pleasure of form. Space-bimba was created within Alessi's creative galaxy and introduced in the May 2010 program: a piece that embodies all the deliberate lightness of those years, when the Crusinallo factory was experimenting with polymers to create new grammars of everyday life. Long discontinued and classified as a final-series item, Space-bimba now has the discreet charm of objects that are no longer easy to find: those that tell the story of a specific moment in Italian design and that their owners tend not to part with. We chose it for this reason — for its ability to make you smile without being banal, to sit on the wrist of a child as well as that of an adult who has never stopped playing.
