Alessi — Plissé MDL08 MDL08 W/UK | White thermoplastic resin toaster

There is something almost sartorial about Plissé. The surface that gives the object its name — that pleated texture, rhythmic and tactile like a striped fabric — transforms an everyday appliance into a small monument to form. Made of white thermoplastic resin, smooth yet structured, the toaster occupies the countertop with the discreet elegance of one who has nothing to prove. The proportions are calibrated, and the white is just right: not cold, not sterile, but bright and domestic. Plissé was born from the pencil of Michele De Lucchi, one of the most influential Italian architects and designers of the past forty years. Founder of studios such as AMDL CIRCLE and a leading figure in the Memphis Movement in the 1980s, De Lucchi has always explored the boundary between utilitarian object and inhabitable sculpture. With Alessi — an Emilian manufacturer that has transformed industrial production into design culture since 1921 — he created a family of small appliances in which the plissé gesture becomes a recognizable and coherent signature: from the kettle to the toaster, a visual alphabet that unifies and distinguishes. At Stilmobili, we chose Plissé because it is exactly the kind of object we look for: it is not content simply to work; it wants to look good in the kitchen. It is ideal for those who design spaces with the same care they use when choosing the books on their bedside table, for those who see the kitchen counter as a surface to inhabit, not merely to use. Project notes: 850 W of power, dimensions 34 × 19 × 19 cm, UK plug. An object designed to last — in use and in appearance.
