Alessi — Piana ASPN9017 | Chipperfield folding chair in black PP

There is a quiet geometry in the Piana that reveals itself slowly. The folding and stackable chair designed by David Chipperfield for Alessi does not seek attention through rhetorical gestures: it finds it through precision. Made of glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene in deep black, its structure reads as an exercise in subtraction — lines that define space without unnecessarily occupying it, a seat that is both tool and presence. To the touch, it conveys genuine, not simulated, solidity: the material has a density and opacity that evoke something more permanent than ordinary plastic. David Chipperfield, one of the most authoritative contemporary British architects, brings to the Piana the same philosophy that governs his buildings: compositional rigor, respect for function, and a rejection of ornament for its own sake. His entry into the world of small furnishings through Alessi is a natural dialogue between two kindred sensibilities — that of an Officina that for decades has brought together the most visionary designers on the planet, and that of an author who has made formal clarity his signature. The chair joins the Alessi Palinsesto collection in the autumn-winter season, confirming the brand's vocation to treat everyday life as a field for design reflection. At Stilmobili, we chose the Piana because it embodies exactly the rarity we seek: an object capable of fitting into a demanding interior without asking permission, and of disappearing — folded and stacked — when space has other priorities. It is the chair for those who live intelligently: in compact apartments or large lofts, designer kitchens or urban terraces. Those who choose it are not looking for a spectacular seat, but the right one. Project notes: dimensions 52 × 46 × 90 cm, net weight 5.66 kg. The folding structure allows for stacking, optimizing space management without compromising structural stability.
