Alessi — Pes | Letter Opener Designed by Iacchetti

Alessi Pes - The fish that opens letters

There is something subtly poetic about a desk object that carries with it the echo of a dialect and the silent shape of a fish. Pes - so called because in its designer's Cremonese dialect it means precisely "fish" - transforms the everyday act of opening an envelope into a small moment of visual and tactile pleasure. Its sinuous shape slips between the fingers, the flat tail provides a secure grip, and the slightly pointed snout does its job discreetly.

Why we chose it for you

Giulio Iacchetti conceived Pes as an object that exists between design and personal storytelling: its substantial thickness and curved profile in polished stainless steel give it a sculptural presence, whether on an office desk or a shelf at home. Alessi - founded in 1921 on Lake Orta and for over a century a research workshop in the applied arts - has the ability to elevate the most ordinary tools into objects worthy of being observed, touched, and given as gifts.
