Alessi — Ossidiana MT18/3 B | Black aluminum espresso coffee maker

Black like the volcanic stone from which it takes its name, Ossidiana is a moka pot that transforms the morning ritual into an expression of style. The cast aluminum is dressed in a deep, uniform black, while the handle and knob in thermoplastic resin complete the silhouette with absolute chromatic consistency. In the hand, it has the reassuring weight of well-made objects, that quiet density that distinguishes a utensil from a design object. It was designed by Mario Trimarchi, a Palermo-born designer with a poetic and anthropological sensibility, for years one of the most original voices on the Italian design scene. With Ossidiana, Trimarchi does not reinterpret the moka pot - he distills it. The classic moka form is stripped of every superfluous ornament and reduced to its essence: a monolithic, almost mineral body that evokes the polished hardness of obsidian itself, the volcanic glass used by humans since prehistoric times. The Alessi Palinsesto collection, to which this piece belongs, originated as a reflection on domestic everyday life and its most ritualistic objects. We chose Ossidiana for those who are not content simply to make coffee, but want to inhabit the moment of preparing it. It is the right object for a kitchen with a decisive character - natural materials, monochrome palettes, nothing superfluous - but it also finds its ideal place on a desk or in a small office where design is not decoration, but a statement of intent.
