There is something meditative about the ritual of filtered coffee, the slowness with which the water passes through the grounds and the liquid descends, amber and transparent, into the cup that receives it. KU is this cup: white porcelain, clean form, visual silence. An object that does not demand attention but earns it over time, in the everyday space of early morning or the suspended afternoon. Toyo Ito — one of the great masters of contemporary Japanese architecture, winner of the 2013 Pritzker Prize — brings to this project for Alessi the same sensitivity that runs through his buildings: the pursuit of structural lightness, the tension between form and emptiness, between presence and transparency. KU, a Japanese word that evokes the concept of "sky" but also of "emptiness" in the Zen philosophical sense, is not a cup that imposes itself. It is a container for moments. White porcelain, in its bareness, becomes a surface of light. At Stilmobili, we chose KU for those who inhabit spaces with intention, for those who recognize in everyday design a form of self-care. It is the ideal piece for a contemporary table that does not give up cultural depth, for the collector of functional design, or for anyone looking for a gift of rare intellectual elegance. Its end-of-line status makes it even more precious: an object that will not return. Project notes: 20 cl capacity, 8 cm diameter, white porcelain. Designed by Toyo Ito for Alessi, KU collection. Autumn/winter catalogue. End-of-line item — limited availability.
