Alessi — Flint MA04 6S | Anastassiades stainless steel diffuser

There is something almost mineral about Michael Anastassiades's Flint for Alessi: a low, perfect disc in 18/10 stainless steel, polished like a stone smoothed by water, bringing the quiet presence of a fragrance into the centre of the room. The rattan sticks emerge from the metal surface in an essential gesture, almost an industrial ikebana. The form is all here - nothing is superfluous, nothing is ornamental - yet the result possesses a rare aesthetic power, characteristic of objects that do not seek attention and nevertheless attract it. The Flint fragrance carries its nature in its name: flint, firestone, the olfactory memory of something primordial and pure. Anastassiades - a Cyprus-born designer and artist based in London, known for light installations and objects that explore the boundary between sculpture and function - conceived this diffuser as a collectible object as well as something to live with. The design was created as part of the Alessi Palinsesto fall/winter collection, intended to engage with the year's more introspective atmospheres. At Stilmobili, we chose Flint because it condenses into just a few centimetres of diameter everything we look for in the products we bring in: a strong idea, impeccable execution, and a designer with a coherent, recognisable vision. It is the ideal object for those who live consciously - for whom a room's fragrance is an integral part of the interior design, not an optional detail.
