Alessi — ES16/100 1 | Sottsass glass and beechwood jar

There is something deeply Mediterranean in the way this airtight jar captures the light. The transparent glass body - capable of holding up to one liter - reveals what it contains, while the beechwood lid, stained sunny yellow, asserts itself with the same confidence as a graphic gesture. Form and color do not merely coexist: they converse, contradict each other, and complete each other. On a kitchen counter or sideboard, this container does not disappear among the objects - it engages with them. The design bears the signature of Ettore Sottsass, a pivotal figure in twentieth-century Italian design, founder of the Memphis group and an uncompromising voice against every form of formal neutrality. Sottsass believed that objects should communicate, move, and even disturb. Here, that vision becomes domestic and everyday: the two-tone lid - yellow, black, and white - echoes the radical visual grammar that Sottsass applied for decades at every scale of design, from architecture to ceramics. The piece is part of the Alessi 100 Values Collection, an editorial project that gathers and reinterprets the best of the design heritage of the Crusinallo factory. We at Stilmobili chose it because it represents exactly what we believe in: that a functional object can also be an art object. It is ideal for those who want to bring a strong visual presence into the kitchen without sacrificing functionality, and for those who see the table and shelves as surfaces to compose with the same rigor as a display. Project notes: height 20.5 cm, diameter 12 cm, capacity 100 cl. Airtight closure. Beechwood lid. Produced by Alessi, spring/summer season.
